The play was co-written by Salingré and Anton Bittner. The item is a published copy (Berlin: Theater-Commissions-Geschäft von H. Michaelson, 1860; "Den Bühnen gegenüber als Manuscript gedruckt"), with minor annotations, apparently related to performance of the play. The copy evidently belonged to the theater lending library of Theodor Bloch in Philadelphia; the title is listed in Bloch's catalog for his library, dated 1886 (see box 34). The title page attributes music to A. Conradi. It carries the note: "An Wallner's Theater in Berlin mit vielem Beifall oft gegeben." The page with the list of characters gives the contemporary cast at Wallner's Theater. A handwritten annotation on the title page indicates that "Die Tochter des Bettler's" is an alternate title. (The collection's holdings of theater newspapers and playbills contain no reference to this play.)
